Beets and chard (I refuse to call it “Swiss chard” for a variety of reasons) are different varieties of the same plant species, Beta vulgaris. As such, I suppose it isn’t all that surprising that I recently discovered a chard type growing in a planting of beet types. It will be interesting to see if it develops a beet root (delicious), or a chard root (boring and not generally eaten). I’m on the edge of my seat for this one.
