Our carrot rust fly border might have been effective. It is, however, a little tricky to say definitively that it was a success, as we aren’t sure we have a population of carrot rust flies in our immediate area to protect against. We have, however, harvested about a third of this year’s first 150-square-foot planting of carrots, and none of the roots have shown any signs of damage. Of course to say that the barrier is effective without a properly controlled test is a bit of a stretch. It isn’t as much of a stretch as saying that homeopathy cures illnesses (it doesn’t, of course), but is a stretch nonetheless.

Great looking carrots—are you going to be overwintering any?

So, so, so funny!

Pops – We put in 150-square feet of ‘Autumn King’ carrots on the 29th of June for winter use, but I don’t think we’ll overwinter them in the ground, as they are in a particularly boggy section of the field. I’m looking into low-tech alternatives to a root cellar to store them (and other things) this winter.
Erika – I have, it is a classic.
He looks good.
